Vegetable Garden Fence

Once a vegetable garden is planted and the vegetables start to grow and flourish the last thing a gardener wants to think about is are pest going to destroy all of the hard work that was put into the garden. That is where vegetable garden fences come into play. These fences can be made of wire, metal chains or wood and they are built to keep out all of the pest.

So what should you Look for in a vegetable garden fence? When looking for the right type of fence to build first consider what you are trying to protect and from what type of animals you are trying to protect it from. You also have to consider the type of climate and atmosphere that is around the garden, is it sunny most of the time, windy, or shady, are there big trees hovering over the garden etc. Once this is evaluated then you must decide what type of fence to get wood or metal, with a wood fence there ill be lots of additional maintenance and repair, but with a metal fence of wire or chains there is little to no maintenance required.

Depending on the type of animals you need to keep out will determine the height requirements of the fence. A 2 foot fence is sufficient to keep out turtles and rabbits, but for deer and other larger animals an 8-10 foot fence is necessary. When placing a wire fence around the garden it is best to put some of the wire downs in ground at least a foot this will keep out the burrowing pest. When searching for the right type of fence it is a good idea to look for ones that are easy to assemble and disassemble, in a short amount of time. There may come a time where you may have to re-situate the fence to another area of the yard. The fence should also be made of a sturdy construction and it should be something that can be used year after year.

A vegetable garden is necessary to build if you want to keep little creatures and larger animals away from your wonderful fruits of labor. Consider the cost and the quality of any fence before putting down the cash and do an evaluation of the garden before setting foot in a store. Write down all of the specifications of your garden, the type of animals that are in your area etc. This will narrow down the height and construction choices for the type of fence you need.
